MEET LEE FEINBERG- JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE OPTICAL TELESCOPE ELEMENT MANAGER

Lee Feinberg

Lee worked for 10 years on the Hubble Space Telescope. He was as a member of the optics and integration and testing teams that built and tested COSTAR and WFPC-2 for SM-1, served as the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph Instrument Manager for SM-2, served as the Wide-Field Camera-3 Concept Study Lead and as the initial Cosmic Origins Spectrograph Instrument Manager. After leaving Hubble, Lee spent 3 years as the Assistant Chief for Technology in the Instrument Systems and Technology Division.


Lee is currently the Optical Telescope Element Manager for the James Webb Space Telescope and has been in that role for over 13 years. Lee is also the Chief Large Optical Systems Engineer in the Instrument Systems Technology Division at Goddard. In 2005, Lee served as Chair of the agency wide Advanced Telescope and Observatory Capability Roadmap team and was recently a member of the AURA study panel on the Future of UVOIR Space Astronomy which recommended a 12m successor to Hubble and Webb. Lee is an associate editor of the Journal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments, and Systems and a Fellow of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). Lee is also a pianist, keyboardist, composer of jazz and rock music and member of the band Outta Scope.
